Fashion can be anything that makes you look and feel good at any given time, whether it is the ripped jeans from your favorite band or the dress you wore to your friend’s wedding. In this way it was possible for a Parisian style to influence the rest of Europe in a year and for an American trend to be adopted worldwide within weeks. Fashions can now move even faster with the ubiquity of the Internet and social media. This is not only changing how we shop and buy clothes but it is altering our perception of the world and ourselves. This heightened consciousness has led to an increased desire for individuality in the fashion we wear. It has also influenced gender roles, as seen in the movement toward cross-dressing and transgender attire.
